Judge threatens to close court after FBI arrest of Milwaukee judge

A Wisconsin judge, Monica Isham, has threatened to stop holding court in Sawyer County due to her feeling unprotected and disrespected following the FBI's arrest of Milwaukee Judge Hannah Dugan. Dugan was arrested on obstruction charges for allegedly helping an undocumented immigrant, Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, evade Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers. Isham stated in an email to other state judges that she will refuse to hold court without new guidance or support, expressing concerns about her own safety and that of her staff and community. She also voiced strong opposition to individuals being taken from her courtroom by ICE without due process, even suggesting she might raise bail money for defendants. Isham defended Dugan's actions, asserting that Dugan was arrested for upholding her oath. The criminal complaint against Dugan details how she allegedly directed ICE officers away from Flores-Ruiz, facilitating his escape from the courthouse for approximately 22 minutes before his recapture. Flores-Ruiz had an active warrant for his arrest after re-entering the country illegally, having been deported over a decade prior.
