Russia sent a record number of drones into Ukraine as Trump says Putin has ‘gone crazy’

Russia launched its largest drone attack to date against Ukraine, deploying 355 drones in an escalation of its aerial bombing campaign. This marks the third time this month Russia has broken its record for aerial bombardments. The attacks come as Russia continues to push along the front lines and analysts suggest it is preparing for a summer offensive. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that these attacks carry significant political meaning, not just military logic. Over the weekend, Russia launched approximately 900 drones at Ukraine, while its Defense Ministry reported shooting down 103 Ukrainian drones over its own territory. The conflict has become a testing ground for drone warfare, with both sides utilizing and developing increasingly sophisticated drone technology. Meanwhile, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz indicated that range restrictions for weapons supplied to Ukraine have been lifted by several Western allies, allowing Ukraine to defend itself by attacking military positions within Russia. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov deemed this move dangerous and contrary to settlement efforts. French President Emmanuel Macron accused Putin of lying to Europeans and Americans, urging allies to set a deadline for him. The EU's foreign policy chief also announced plans for more sanctions on Moscow. Former U.S. President Donald Trump criticized Putin's actions, calling him "crazy" for escalating attacks that needlessly kill civilians. The Kremlin stated Putin's decisions are necessary for Russian security and are a response to Ukrainian strikes. This escalation occurs as Russia and Ukraine completed a major prisoner swap, releasing over 1,000 individuals each.
