Israel threatens Iran’s top leader after missiles damage hospital and wound more than 200

President Donald Trump announced he will decide within two weeks whether the U.S. will directly attack Iran, citing a substantial chance for renewed negotiations over Iran's nuclear program. This comes amidst escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, now in its seventh day. Earlier, Israel's defense minister threatened Iran's Supreme Leader following Iranian missile strikes on an Israeli hospital and near Tel Aviv, which wounded over 240 people. In response, Israeli warplanes conducted their latest attack on Iran's nuclear program. A diplomatic initiative appears to be underway, with Iran's Foreign Minister scheduled to meet with EU officials and counterparts from the UK, France, and Germany. The conflict began with Israeli airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear and military sites, resulting in hundreds of casualties in Iran. Iran retaliated with numerous missiles and drones, though most were intercepted by Israel's air defenses, causing fewer casualties in Israel. Hospitals in Israel, including Soroka Medical Center, have transferred patients underground and converted facilities to handle potential attacks. Iran insists its nuclear program is peaceful but enriches uranium to near weapons-grade levels, while Israel is widely believed to possess nuclear weapons. Diplomatic efforts are ongoing, but Iran has publicly rejected calls for surrender and warned against U.S. military involvement. Israel also targeted the Arak heavy water reactor, aiming to prevent its use in plutonium production for nuclear weapons, a facility Iran had agreed to redesign under a previous deal.
