Indian and European postal services will suspend shipments to US over tariffs
Several postal services across India and Europe are suspending shipments to the United States in response to President Donald Trump's recent tariffs on international goods. Countries including Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, France, Austria, the United Kingdom, and India will temporarily halt certain deliveries, particularly low-value packages. This action follows President Trump's decision in late July to suspend the "de minimis" exemption, which previously allowed packages under $800 to enter the U.S. tariff-free. The suspension, effective August 29, has caused concern among foreign postal services regarding the processing of new policies and the ability to ensure goods enter the U.S. before the deadline. Major shipping companies like DHL have also paused shipments due to a lack of clarity on how customs duties will be collected and what additional data will be required. La Poste, France's national postal service, expressed similar concerns, noting the insufficient time provided to postal operators to adapt to the new rules. Initially, President Trump had targeted only China with the suspension of the de minimis exemption before expanding the policy.
