Homan vows to continue ICE arrests after ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ shutdown order

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation operations will continue despite a federal judge ordering the shutdown of Floridas Alligator Alcatraz immigration detention facility within 60 days. The judge cited a violation of federal law requiring an environmental review for major construction projects. Florida has appealed the decision, which mandates the removal of all migrants and associated construction materials. Border czar Tom Homan expressed confidence that the shutdown would not impede mass deportation plans, stating that migrants could be moved to other facilities. He also highlighted the presidents request for 100,000 additional beds to accommodate such transfers. Homan criticized the judge, calling her "radical," a sentiment echoed by Florida officials who labeled her an "activist judge." Governor Ron DeSantis remains optimistic about the states appeal, asserting their position is correct and that deportations will proceed. The case is now headed to the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta.
