Kirk suspect charged with murder after being turned in by family
Tyler Robinson has been charged with murder, aggravated murder, felony discharge of a weapon causing serious bodily injury, and obstruction of justice in connection with the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Robinson was arrested after a 33-hour manhunt, reportedly turned in by a family member who stated Robinson confessed or implied his involvement. Authorities revealed that Robinson had become increasingly political, expressing strong objections to Kirk's presence on the Utah Valley University campus. Evidence found includes bullet casings engraved with antifascist messages and references to online memes. Discord messages between Robinson and his roommate also provided investigators with details about the rifle used in the crime. Governor Spencer Cox stated that Robinson had no criminal history and showed no indication of mental illness. The FBI and various Utah law enforcement agencies collaborated on the manhunt, which was aided by significant public assistance. Charlie Kirk, founder and CEO of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed at an event at UVU. The recovered murder weapon was a high-powered rifle found in a wooded area. The assassination is being described as a significant and potentially dark watershed moment in American history, drawing parallels to political violence of the past.
