'Trump-Kennedy Center’ name confirmed after unanimous vote
The Kennedy Center has reportedly been renamed the Trump-Kennedy Center following a unanimous vote by its Board of Trustees. This decision is attributed to President Trump's work in saving the building financially and physically. However, Rep. Joyce Beatty, an ex officio member, stated the vote was not unanimous and she was prevented from voicing her opposition. It has also been clarified that ex officio members, such as Beatty and Sen. Susan Collins, are not permitted to vote on such matters. The board's voting members are primarily presidential appointees, a group that Trump recently restructured, replacing Biden-appointed members with predominantly GOP figures. This marks the first name change for the institution since 1964, when it became the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The center's vice president of public relations confirmed the vote, emphasizing the bipartisan support for the new name, which honors both Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy. It remains unclear whether the board has the authority to enact this name change or if congressional approval will be necessary.
