Trump admin moves to more easily fire federal workers
The Trump administration has finalized a rule that will make it easier to terminate approximately 50,000 federal employees. This new policy, published by the Office of Personnel Management, reclassifies certain positions, making them easier to eliminate. The administration argues this will allow for the swift removal of employees who engage in misconduct, perform poorly, or obstruct presidential directives. This move revisits a similar policy from October 2020, which was later canceled by the Biden administration. The Biden administration had previously implemented rules to make firing federal workers more difficult. The new Trump administration rule is set to take effect in 30 days. Democratic lawmakers and federal union leaders have strongly condemned the decision, vowing legal action and stating it threatens national security and government services. Federal employee unions had already initiated lawsuits against the administration regarding this policy. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended the rule, emphasizing the administration's focus on an efficient and productive federal workforce for taxpayers.
