U.S. Embassy in Baghdad again urges Americans to leave Iraq as Trump touts strikes on Iran
President Trump announced that U.S. forces bombed Kharg Island, Iran's primary oil export hub, destroying military facilities without damaging oil infrastructure. He warned that any interference with shipping in the Strait of Hormuz would lead to reconsideration of this decision. The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad reiterated its call for Americans to leave Iraq following a drone strike on the embassy compound. The U.S. military reported the loss of a KC-135 refueling aircraft in Iraq, bringing the total U.S. military death toll to 13, with seven killed by enemy fire. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that joint U.S.-Israeli strikes have hit over 15,000 targets and injured Iran's supreme leader. The humanitarian toll has worsened, with millions displaced and over 1,300 killed in Iran and 773 in Lebanon. Trump urged other countries, including China, France, Japan, and South Korea, to send warships to help keep the Strait of Hormuz open. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have conducted multiple strikes against Hezbollah in Beirut and southern Lebanon. An additional 2,200 U.S. Marines are en route to the Middle East. Officials anticipate the war may last another week, with a potential for a prolonged period of intermittent conflict if no deal is reached.
