Correspondents' dinner attacker detained with multiple weapons
A man armed with multiple weapons was apprehended by security forces outside the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night after he shot a Secret Service agent in the vest at close range. A long gun and shell casings were recovered at the scene. President Donald Trump, who was attending the event with his cabinet, confirmed that the agent was unharmed due to the protective vest and that he had spoken with the agent. Trump shared video and photos of the attacker on social media, describing him as a "lone wolf" and vowing not to be deterred from his job. He noted that the Hilton hotel, where the event was held, is not a secure building and announced that future dinners would be relocated to the White House ballroom. The incident occurred at the same hotel where President Ronald Reagan was shot in 1981. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that charges would be filed against the attacker, and the investigation into the suspect's California apartment is ongoing. Trump indicated that the event might be rescheduled within 30 days.
