Ukrainian drones hit Moscow’s largest oil refinery located just miles from the Kremlin
Ukrainian drones launched a significant attack on Moscow, striking the city's largest oil refinery in the Kapotnya District. Owned by Gazprom, the facility is located just miles from the Kremlin and serves as a vital component of Moscow's energy infrastructure. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin confirmed the attack, noting that while a facility was damaged, no casualties occurred. This incident marks the second known time the refinery has been targeted by Ukrainian drones during the ongoing war. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky praised the operation as a demonstration of his country's long-range capabilities. He described the strike as a just response to Russian aggression and an essential method of applying pressure on Russia to end the conflict. The attack followed a Russian strike on Kyiv that damaged the historic 11th-century Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra monastery complex. While Russia denied targeting the UNESCO site, blaming the damage on U.S.-made weaponry, Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine will continue using its drone technology to force a resolution to the war. The strike highlights the expanding reach of the conflict as both nations continue to target critical infrastructure and symbolic locations.
